What we do

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Nurses Association of Ireland consists of IBD nurses that are interested/work in a variety of IBD related roles in hospitals in the Republic of Ireland. These roles include:

  • Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Advanced Nurse Practitioner
  • Staff Nurse
  • Infusion Nurse
  • Research Nurse
  • Endoscopy Nurse

MISSION

The mission of the IBDNAI is to develop and promote best practice across the IBD community throughout Ireland. This is achieved by:

  • Facilitating opportunities for professional development
  • Sharing and collaborating on standards of best practice
  • Improving knowledge of Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Develop and influence national and international standards of care PPPGs
  • Facilitate and promote research in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Provide support, guidance and education to members
  • Increase profile and recognition if the Inflammatory Bowel Disease nursing group

AIM AND OBJECTIVES

Aims

The aim of the IBD nurse is to ensure or promote better patient outcomes and reduced hospital admissions, thus improving public value. The IBD nurse provides a rapid point of access for IBD patients in particular providing support, advice and education either directly or via telephone service. One of the most effective services of the IBD nurse is rapid access consultation through either phone or email.

The aim of the IBDNAI is to:

  • Promote evidenced based practice in the delivery of IBD nursing care.
  • Provide educational support for nurses in developing their IBD practice.
  • Provide a forum for the support of research, the sharing of knowledge, and the dissemination of developments in the practice of IBD nursing.
  • Elevate the national and international status of Irish IBD nurses.

HISTORY

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Nurses Association of Ireland (IBDNAI) was formed at a meeting in Dublin on 16th May 2014. It was established by likeminded nurses with the vision of improving national networking links between IBD nurses with the view to better collaboration between services and to improve standards of care for patients. It now consists of 78 according to email addreses of nurses working in a variety of roles within the speciality of IBD.
